WCC Beaver Valley Road Ride

Attention roadies!  Could there be a better way to spend a sunny Sunday in May?  Consider joining us for the Waterloo Cycling Club's first annual Beaver Valley/Town of the Blue Mountains Road ride!  On Sunday May 16th at 10:00am, we will be meeting at the Harbour Club Parking Lot (at the town beach) in the picturesque town of Thornbury.  Maps will be posted on this website in the next few days.  They will also be provided at the start, with suggestions on flatter, hillier, shorter, longer options depending on your time and fitness levels.

What You Should Know Before You Go

1.  This is hilly terrain and can make for a long day of riding. We can suggest shorter routes but there will be hills!

2.  This is also a SELF-GUIDED, SELF-CONTAINED day of riding.  This means NO SUPPORT VEHICLES!  For the main group of riders, the objective will be 112 km with speeds of 30 to 35 km/hr. If this exceeds your abilities, bring a group of friends and we will suggest optional routes.  Therefore,it is advisable not to show up alone! Organize a group of friends IN ADVANCE, and plan to stick together.  Although you probabaly won't encounter any man-eating wild life, the odd pickup truck with gun racks on the back window have been spotted on occasion in this area, and you definitely don't want to be using a stranger's shoulder to cry on after some of the climbs you will encounter.

3.  Rest/refill stops are on each route so CARRY MONEY for water, bars, etc.

4.  Beware of the pastry selection at the Revanna General Store.  We know from first hand experience how disconcerting it can be to burn 3000 calories in a day of riding and still go home heavier than when you started.

5.  For those wanting to make a full weekend of it, we suggest any of the many awesome B&B's in the area.  They are all good!  Next year it is our hope to coordinate with a few of them to offer special one and two-night rates for WCC members.

6.  The ice should be out of the bay by the 16th. Bathing suites are optional.

7.  Points of interest/refills/extra things to do and see:
Walter's Falls Inn, Bogner and Epping Look-Outs, Clarksburg Art Galleries, Beaver River fishing, Revanna baking, Eugenia General Store, Lake Eugenia cross-over.

8.  The one absolute 'don't miss' - finishing your ride with a stop at the Ashanti Expresso/Cappuccino Bar and Bakery on the main street in Thornbury before you drag yourself the last half km back to your car in the harbour.

So gather your friends, put a fresh blade on you best leg-shaving razor and lets have a great innaugural  "WCC Beaver Valley Road Ride".
