Recreational Touring Rides
About the Recreational Touring Rides
The recreational touring rides offer a relaxed alternative to the road and mountain bike rides that are offered by the Club throughout the week. There are a number of great spots for recreational touring in the community and surrounding area. Historically, the rides have taken place on abandoned rail lines within the region. However, starting this year, we also have rides planned in other great locations, including Brantford-Port Dover and the Niagara Region. Please stay tuned for more details, which will be posted below.
The distance traveled will depend on the riders, so please don't worry about having to cover any specific distance. If necessary, we will break into groups with group leaders. People who are just out for a leisurely ride will be accomodated as well as people who may want to sprint to the end of the trail. Most of the touring rides will be approximately 2 hours in duration. However, rides outside the region may run longer.
The recreational touring rides are well-suited for mountain bikes, cyclocross bikes, touring bikes, and hybrids. Members wishing to ride road bikes are encouraged to switch tires to those with a tread suitable for use on stone dust, light gravel, and/or compacted mulch.
2011 Ride Schedule
We have rides planned every other Sunday at 10:00 am. There may be additonal rides added to this schedule if people show interest, so please make sure you let us know if you like the idea of the ride, but the times below don't work for you.
The list below shows the meeting times and planned route. We started working on the list at the end of March and we're still tossing a few ideas around to make these more fun and diverse. Please keep watching this page.
