The Inaugural 2010 Tour de Waterloo Got Off to a Great Start on Fathers Day

The inaugural 2010 Tour de Waterloo got off to a great start on Fathers Day - Sunday June 20. The ride raised $8,150 for the Grand River Hospital Foundation's - Architects of Care program, funds came from a  portion of the participating cyclists registration fee and private donations.

Approximately 129 cyclists rode in either the 70 km or 130 km ride on a sunny beautiful day. The riders did experience some steady winds which provided an added challenge on the Tour, but feedback has all been very positive. Hog Tails Barbecue restaurant cooked up a great meal of Ribs, Chicken and salads for all the participants and volunteers.

A special thanks to  Scott Simpson, Igor Dragoslavic, Art Hammerschmidt , Kara MacKinnon, Gary Storey,  Allan Venema, Ray Vander Veen, Stuart Connell, Ron Schirm, Dave Millar of Kiwanis Park and the Waterloo Cycling Club Executive.

Also want to be sure to say thank you to all the Registration and Route Marshal Volunteers along with our Sponsors - especially Libro Financial Group, Watsys Corp,  Lead Dogs Visual Arts, Wesmount Signs and Schlueter Waterloo Auto Mall who without their support, an event of this size could not happen.

And finally, Nancy Hewat and Kris Cates-Bristol from the Grand River Hospital Foundation for all their support and help both leading up to the event and for helping out on-site Sunday.

Looking forward to the 2011 Tour de Waterloo coming back, bigger and even better in support of the Grand River Hospital Foundation.

Thanks,

Malcolm Steven
