Trail Status
How often is the trail status updated? I have seen the trail status as closed for the last 3 days despite little rain. I am not in the area so it is a trek to get the Hydro Cut and do not want to get in only to find that the trails are not suitable for riding.
Thanks
Wayne
So you've heard from Scott, the good cop. Here's something from the bad cop.
The online Trail Status is just a vague guide, a volunteer effort to make it easier for trail users. It is unrealistic to expect it to be updated in real time.
Common sense should be used above anything else. If your trip to the trails is lengthy and you don't want to take risks, wait till the conditions have been dry for a longer period of time. Do not shift the responsibility to someone else. Even if it is dry at the time of your departure, a downpour can happen by the time you arrive.
Greater numbers of long distance visitors are flocking to the trails. It's been noticed that the long commute makes some of them overly committed to riding (regardless of the soil conditions) once they made the trip and the time commitment. However long their travel time might be, the time to repair the damage from riding in bad conditions will be grater, not to mention the injustice of having to "clean up" after someone else.

Hi Wayne,
The trail status is usually up to date within a day but one of the problems lately is that there has only been short times (a day or less) that the trails have been okay. For example, they were too wet on Thursday, but Friday was okay, then today they are closed again. If you think it might be dry enough, you can go out, but please be ready to turn around if you are making any kind of ruts. Alot of people keep riding out of ignorance of the damage and how much volunteer time it takes to fix the damage that they make. There's no reason for anyone to ride if they are making ruts or sliding.
When it's been questionable, I've been driving out to look at the trails before the Monday and Wednesday WCC rides. I usually don't make a special trip there any other day, so if you happen to notice the open/closed state is wrong, please feel free to shoot me an email. If you are really interested in helping keep the status accurate, then I can set you up so you can update the Trail Status yourself.
I hope this helps,
Scott
