Tuesday Night Crash #2 :(
We did have a crash in group 3/4 today.
We were in a good sized group. ~12-15? Double pace line.
It sounds like people were trying to ride closer together to avoid the strong cross winds. And one got blown into the other?
Regardless, the whole group stopped to assist and help the rider out of the ditch. Gears and brakes were banged up with a good tear in the jersey.
He was shaken, but thought he would feel better if he continued on with the group to get back to his car.
The larger group agreed to split up into a couple of smaller groupetto's to even out the paces.
I hope you are feeling ok.
I hope that fella was okay after. It is a long way down in some areas once you're off the road.
That wind was crazy. I don't think we really got into a groove after that. And then I got schooled on the back stretch. Ugh, 40 lbs down, 50 more to go....
I was me that hit the deck last night. All is well. I was following the outside line of the paceline - there was a drop in pace at the front (probably a wind gust?) and a general shift to the left. The space between my front wheel and the rear wheel in front of me disappeared in a hurry. I was trying to move left and on the brakes when I nicked the wheel in front of me and that was that. I'm sorry for the interruption in the ride and very thankful I didn't take anyone with me. Thanks for all the help.
The damage report. Just like the song - head and shoulder knee and toes (and hip). Mostly the left side. The shoulder and hip took most of the impact. There's a small scuff on my helmet - but no crack. It will be replaced. My jersey is ripped on the left shoulder with some road rash to match. I have full mobility in my shoulder this morning. So mostly it was a skid and not so much a smack - which I think saved my collar bone. My bike got a few scrapes on the brake levers and wheel quick realase and bar tape is shredded. I finished the ride and rode home without issue.
My pride took big hit, but physically nothing lasting.
Drink Milk.
Glad to hear there was no major damage and you're in one piece!
It was a bit of a sketchy group last night with the wind. Different ability levels showed in the gaps that were forming all over, which eventually lead to the group splitting up. It's tough to get a larger group to stick together and stay steady in the conditions we had last night. We have to keep talk out there and communicate so everyone is on the same page, maybe split the group up sooner next time.

Hope you didn't break your collarbone like yours truly. All kidding aside, how you are okay :D
