Road Riding

The WCC was born as a road club in 1968 and, despite the well-deserved rise of the MTB, our road contingent has always been strong and active. We've had a number of provincial champions, and at times our legendary Tuesday night Bamberg rides have drawn national-class riders.

Road rides are the biggest rides we organize – some rides will have five or six groups of 8 to 10 riders per group. Nothing beats road riding for developing endurance and power in a controlled way. Even mountain bikers train on the road, and our road training sessions have helped take many "non-roadies" to the next level in their "usual" disciplines. They've also provided non-racers with a way to learn the tricks of group riding and improve their fitness, allowing them to truly enjoy themselves and find new inspirations.

Developing Roadies

Yes, we've got some raging road rides. But you don't need to be national-class to join us. Our regular rides are organized and separated into groups by ability--from novice to elite. If you're looking for group riding, odds are we've got a group that you'd enjoy, be it laid-back or truly masochistic.

If you are not an advanced road rider please make sure to come out the Wednesday Evening Novice Road Ride to get aquainted with the club and learn the skills required to ride in the other group rides.

Ride Smart – Ride Safe

Group riding takes practice and is about no surprises:

  • pedal smoothly, no rapid acceleration or braking

  • communicate with your riding partners

  • signal your intent and point out road hazards
