I'm riding to Toronto tomorrow and coming back on Thursday and I'm looking to possibly change my route...

Anyone have a favourite route to share?...

Here's a route from Glen Morris (just north of Paris) to the Lakeshore in Burlington. I used to work in Paris so I like the roads down that way. The route goes south of the 401 so may add a bit of distance but the roads are great up to Burlington. The Lake shore from Burlington to Toronto isn't the greatest but there is a bike lane for most of it I believe.

I wouldn't mind finding one that is paved and traffic free. When I start looking there seem some routes that head up along #9 (north of Toronto) but the traffic along #9 is just horrible - it really is a highway. Schomberg to Aurora along Aurora Road is nice and from Aurora I've got good routes down to where you want to go (everything seems to be downhill from Aurora.)

I find Google Maps doesn't give you the detail you need - supposing you found a potential route how can you find out that it is busted up and full of potholes? I'd be looking for a route to get to Lloydtown that is pleasant.

I'm not ready for a 120k ride - 40k in March is fine - but I'd like to have a good route myself by solstice.

Are there any websites that exist that you can mark bad roads? I think this would be awesome to share with fellow cyclists gravel roads, narrow roads, massive pot hole roads, guaranteed flat roads, etc...

ROUTE 1:

Mississauga Road is really nice except for the area between just south of the 401 and Steeles Rd. when it turns into an 8 lane highway which can be somewhat unnerving...Steeles Rd. itself has a really narrow torn up shoulder, only two lanes, and a lot of trucks...Also, a couple of the roads between Guelph and Kitchener are gravel but they weren't too bad to ride on...Other than that, a pretty pleasant experience...

This is the route that seems to have the least amount of traffic and the best roads...Pretty scenic as well (except for the oil refineries on Lakeshore Rd. east of Oakville)

There's no such thing as a 'guaranteed' flat route between here and Toronto since you have to pass through Halton Hills (which has "hills" in the name for a reason)....You're also going to have to deal with a lot of cars at some point or other whether you like it or not...

What do you guys think of this route? I'm planning on going from Waterloo to Toronto on Friday.
