WCC Trails
The WCC Trails are a 25km system of prime quality single-track mountain bike/hiking/running trails; a favorite trail recreation destination in Southern Ontario. The Trails are enjoyed by an average of 200 users per day; mostly cyclists, but hikers and runners are also frequent guests. The trail network is on Region of Waterloo land in the Petersburg Tract Forest. The WCC Trails have been established through a joint effort of the Waterloo Cycling Club and The Region of Waterloo.
Trail Builders – What We Do
Waterloo Cycling Club Inc. is a nonprofit organization made up entirely of volunteers interested in promoting cycling in the community. WCC has formed a Trail Committee who coordinates all aspects of the trail management, including ongoing communication with the Region of Waterloo. In addition, the Trail Committee is responsible for the improvements and maintenance of the Trail network under a Stewardship Agreement with the Region of Waterloo. Trail maintenance days are scheduled periodically through the year. In addition to the trail days, a crew of volunteers maintains the trails and works to enhance the Trail network environment on a weekly basis.
Fundraising and Donations
There is a constant need for funding to enable trail maintenance and improvement. Much of the trail building and maintenance activity to date has been funded by club sponsors and club members. Fundraising is currently being done through the web site (waterloocyclingclub.ca) and by trail donation boxes at various retailers. In addition to these sources, the Trail Committee is now actively pursuing donations from local businesses and individuals to support this truly amazing community “facility”. The Fundraising Day is an extension of this initiative, and will give people the opportunity to experience what is considered to be some of the best singletrack mountain bike trails in Ontario. Additionally, the Fundraising Day will allow trail users to gain some valuable insight into the amount work and energy that has gone into the creation of this excellent outdoor recreation facility.
The idea of a trail fundraising day was developed to raise awareness of the need for fundraising from trail users, and to connect local businesses with trail users. Funds raised will be used for:
- Replacing deteriorated boardwalks
- Purchasing tools for use by trail volunteers (grooming tools and wheelbarrows)
- Adding and enhancing signage
The funds are managed by the treasurer of the Trails Committee in a Waterloo Cycling Club bank account.
Trail Fundraising Day
In the spirit of raising funds for maintenance and enhancement of the WCC trails, we are asking sponsors who are interested in connecting with Trail users to participate in our First Annual WCC Trails Fundraising Day. Your participation will help us draw more people to the trail head where the festivities will take place.
The Venue
We ask that each vendor set up only one tent (with tables). Any vendor who does not wish to setup an entire tent is welcome to participate in one of the Waterloo Cycling Club tents. Within this tent, you are encouraged to run any vendor operations such as:
- Promoting products through samples, or profitless sale
- Running raffles
- Providing services to encourage donations
Any product or service that improves the Trail network, enhances the Trail use experience, or promotes health awareness is encouraged.
Waterloo Cycling Club
WCC is planning to offer the following additional activities on the Fundraising Day.
- Guided beginner rides
- Time Trial
- Food and drink sales
- WCC signups for 2011
